In the 2024 edition, the Call 4 Ideas of the MIND Education program will award four Master's theses by students from the University of Milan and the Polytechnic University of Milan, dedicated to developing and deepening awareness and research in the field of microplastics.
Microplastics pose a growing threat not only to the marine and terrestrial environment, but also to human health. Microplastics have been detected in the placenta, breast milk, blood, urine, and deep within the lungs. According to the Italian National Institute of Health, the risks to humans can be physical, chemical, or microbiological in nature.
This initiative aims to raise awareness and promote research in this fieldby promoting and rewarding degree projects that have addressed the issue of microplastics from the perspective of their impact on the environment and on the health and well-being of people and communities. MIND Milano Innovation District, with its emphasis on innovation, scientific research, and sustainability, is an ideal environment for addressing the growing problem of microplastics and developing innovative solutions to raise awareness of this issue and drastically reduce the use of plastic within the district.
In this context, it is possible to experiment with new approaches to educate and engage the MIND community and stakeholders, such as academic institutions and businesses, on the issue of microplastics and the associated risks to human health and the environment.
Call 4 Ideas 2024 is a call for applications at the Politecnico di Milano and the Università degli Studi di Milano, anchors of MIND, and is aimed at graduates of these two universities who have obtained their degree between January 1, 2023, and April 1, 2024.
The deadline for submitting proposals is April 14, 2024. The jury will award four degree projects with a total prize fund of €5,000.
