The Urban Land Institute (ULI) is a nonprofit educational and research organization whose mission is to shape the future of the built environment to create a transformative impact in communities around the world. Founded in 1936, the institute has over 48,000 members representing all aspects of land-use disciplines.

The desire to understand best practices in urban development has led several delegations of ULI members to hold meetings for discussion, in-depth analysis, and vision-building with the various organizations that drive the district’s daily life. MIND provided the ideal platform for showcasing the best ideas in the development of the most innovative approaches to urban planning.

Specifically, on June 11, the Product Councils were held, in which Lendlease actively participated. The day featured a panel discussion on Life Sciences & Health with speakers such as Maria Grazia Magro, Head of Strategy and Scientific Affairs at Human Technopole; Fabrizio Gemmi, Coordinator of the Observatory for Quality and Equity at the Tuscan Regional Health Agency; Deeni Taylor; Tim Fry, Business Leader Science – UKIMEA at Arup; and Simone Santi of Lendlease.

The Global Exchange Council provided a special opportunity to hear from architects Carlo Ratti, Lee Polisano of PLP, Kim Herforth Nielsen of 3XN, and Peter Pereira Gray of the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus, as well as Giuseppe Banfi, scientific director of the IRCSS at Galeazzi Sant’Ambrogio Hospital, Chris Choa of OUTCOMIST, and Stefano Minini of Lendlease.

Finally, on June 13, a tour was held to explore the hubs and the various interpretations of the word “innovation” embodied by the MIND community. Hearing about MIND directly from its key players was a formative experience and an important opportunity to understand just how much our district serves as a unique model, one that can be held up as an example on the international stage.
