On December 5, Federated Innovation @MIND presented an innovative modular construction system using wood, concrete, and dry screed. This public-private collaborative model was created in 2021 as a driver of innovation for the MIND Milano Innovation District promoted by Lendlease with the contribution of Cariplo Factory,as part of the research project Modular Prefab Construction System in the Smart Places & Building Innovation thematic area. This area develops technological projects that aim to set new standards of sustainability, improve working conditions, and increase efficiency, health, and safety in the construction sector.
What led to the development of the Modular Prefab Construction System was a significant investment in research and development, as part of Federated Innovation @MIND.
A project conceived and supported by a group of companies in the network: Lendlease, a leading international real estate group; Wood Beton, a benchmark in Italy for the design and production of industrialized wood and concrete structures and construction systems. Other contributors include MAPEI, an Italian company and one of the world's leading manufacturers of chemical products for the building industry, with a presence on all five continents, and Saint-Gobain, a world leader in the production of solutions for sustainable construction.
The supply chain project involved suppliers, manufacturers, and users in a collaborative ecosystem such as MIND, where research, experimentation, and practical application come together to develop revolutionary projects. A construction system destined to become a technological excellence in the field of sustainable building thanks to its ability to promote the safety and economic and environmental sustainability of every project.
The prefabricated system was installed on Horizon, a building under construction in WestGate and will save around 30% of working days on site compared to traditional methods. The project has therefore made it possible to put innovative technology into practice on a building scale, with an estimated investment in the installed product of almost €4 million.
