The seminar, led by Yifan Cheng, will show howdynamic allostery drives the activation of L-TGF-b mediated by integrin avb8.
Yifan Cheng is an HHMI investigator and professor at UCSF. He received his PhD in 1991 from the Institute of Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, followed by postdoctoral work in solid-state physics and electron microscopy at the University of Oslo and the Max Planck Institute for Metal Research.
In 1996, he switched to structural biology, receiving further training in cryo-EM from Ken Taylor (Florida State University) and Yosh Fujiyoshi (Kyoto University). In 1999, he moved to Harvard Medical School to start a cryo-EM facility. He joined the faculty at UCSF in 2006 and became an HHMI investigator in 2015.
He received the Christian B. Anfinsen Award from the Protein Society (2018), the David G. Rognlie Award from the American Crystallography Association (2026), and is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Science (2019) and the National Academy of Sciences (2020).
